Switchboard Upgrades

Upgrade your outdated switchboard to meet current Australian safety standards and support modern energy demands including solar, batteries, and EV chargers.

Is Your Switchboard Holding You Back?

Older boards running ceramic fuses, missing safety switches, or unable to handle the load of modern appliances are not just inefficient – they are a genuine safety hazard. Many new solar, battery, and EV charging installations cannot legally proceed until the switchboard is brought up to current standards.

At Mountain Breeze, our licensed electricians assess your existing board and design a modern replacement that is safe, compliant, and built to handle everything your property needs now and into the future. Whether the upgrade is standalone or part of a larger solar or EV charger project, we handle the full job cleanly and efficiently.

Why a Switchboard Upgrade Matters

Electrical Safety

Older switchboards with ceramic fuses or missing RCDs (safety switches) do not provide adequate protection against electrical faults. A modern board with circuit breakers and safety switches dramatically reduces the risk of electric shock and electrical fires.

Solar and Battery Compatibility

Most new solar, battery, and EV charging systems require a switchboard that meets current standards. Upgrading your board ensures seamless integration with renewable energy technology and avoids costly installation delays.

Increased Capacity

Today's properties draw far more power than they did 20 years ago - air conditioning, electric cooking, home offices, EV chargers, and pool equipment all add load. An upgraded switchboard handles these demands without tripping or overloading.

Compliance With Current Regulations

If your switchboard does not meet current Victorian electrical standards, it may need to be upgraded before any new electrical work can legally proceed. Getting ahead of this avoids surprises when you are ready to install solar or other systems.

Switchboard Upgrades - FAQs

How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?

If your board still uses ceramic rewirable fuses, lacks safety switches on all circuits, shows signs of scorching or damage, or frequently trips under normal load, it is likely due for an upgrade. Our electricians can inspect your board and advise during a site visit.

In many cases, yes. If your existing board does not meet current Australian standards or lacks the capacity to support a solar inverter connection, it will need upgrading before the solar installation can proceed. We include this assessment in every free solar consultation.

Most residential upgrades are completed within half a day. Your power will need to be switched off during the work, and we will let you know the expected duration in advance so you can plan accordingly.

There will be a temporary power outage while the old board is removed and the new one installed. For most residential jobs, this is around three to five hours. We always aim to minimise the disruption and will confirm the expected timeframe before starting.

Costs vary depending on the size of your property, the condition of the existing board, and the number of circuits required. We provide a clear, itemised quote after inspecting your current setup – no hidden charges or surprise extras.
